WELLINGTON: Want to own an entire village? Well, here's your chance. A tiny village, complete with a school and a fire station, is up for sale in New Zealand for $715,000.

Bill and Christine Hennah had bought Otira in 1998 after passing through and "feeling sorry for it". They paid $56,000 for a hotel, school, fire station and 18 houses. Now, the couple, who are in their 60s, no longer have the energy to run the hotel while maintaining the village that has 40 residents.

They have put up the hotel for sale at $250,000. The entire village will cost $715,000. "We need someone to build it up again. There is a lot of potential and opportunity," the Press quoted Christine as saying.

The village developed when the Otira railway tunnel was opened, and during its heyday was home to about 600 workers and their families. Bill said the department of conservation was not keen on its growth as Otira was in the middle of a national park. For Reprint Rights: timescontent.com
