Concern growing among fans ove

The Rangers Supporters Trust fears that Walter Smith will walk away from the club if no buyer is found. With Alastair Johnston, the chairman, admitting that it is likely Rangers will remain under Sir David Murray's ownership, and so subject to stringent budget controls imposed by Lloyds Bank, at the start of next season, the RST believes Smith may decide that he can no longer carry out what is effectively Platform boots a Platform boots form of crisis management.

Smith has had Platform boots his playing budget cut each season, with the wage bill set to be reduced again. Johnston admitted that he is growing increasingly frustrated with Andrew Ellis's prolonged attempt to buy the club, and that Smith has held private meetings with the club's bankers.

The RST are worried that the manager might finally be exasperated by the constraints he has to work under, with six players out of contract from an already depleted squad, and two - DaMarcus Beasley and Steven Smith - having indicated that they will leave during the summer.

"It's a huge concern that Walter might decide that he's done as much as he can," said David Edgar, a spokesman for the RST. "You do have to wonder how long he will feel he can continue to deliver results when we hear again there's going to be a significant cut in the wage bill. He's been doing this job with one hand tied behind his back and if they cut things further then he's got both hands tied behind his back."

Johnston has spoken to the Rangers Supporters Assembly but there is a feeling at the RST that few fans have realised the seriousness of the club's financial situation - with the debt still around pound(s)30m - and assumed that a new owner would emerge during the summer. Instead, with Ellis, or a consortium including Dave King, yet to make a formal bid, Rangers effectively remain in limbo.

"There's no stability at Rangers, there's no long-term business plan, this club is being run on the hoof," said Edgar. "I can see where Alastair Johnston is coming from; if he's frustrated, that echoes the fans' frustration. Put up or shut up is the message to anyone interested in bidding for the club. The situation at Ibrox isn't straightforward. How long has this club been for sale for? Four years, but we don't know what the price is, or who you buy from. Is it Sir David Murray, or the bank? What do you get Christian louboutin Shoes for that? The stadium? Murray Park? The land round the stadium?

"Nobody knows this, it's a shambles. We seem to have a disunited boardroom, contrasting messages being spun to various sections of the press, and each interested party is working to their own agenda. Rangers fans are entitled to ask after a year of severe cuts, after Champions League participation, after Champions League participation is secured again, and with more cuts in the summer, where is all this money going? People are entitled to say there's something rotten at the top of Ibrox."
