Food for people on the breadli

ANYONE in the Helston-Lizard area who is in dire financial straits and unable to buy food for themselves or their families now has a lifeline.

Margaret Breasley, of Helston, can supply vouchers for those in need for the Truro tory burch Sale Food Bank.

And in a further development, Helston's own Christianbased Mustard Seed project is considering starting up its own food bank, although the proposal is still being investigated.

The Truro Food Bank provides people "in food poverty" with an opportunity to pick up boxes of donated food. Each box provides enough food for three days.

Although set up for the Truro area, a number of representatives have been given authority to hand out vouchers in other Cornish towns.

Mrs Breasley became involved through her work with the Civil Service Benevolent tory burch Sale Fund - she is currently chairman of its South West regional committee.

She said: "It is all about helping others, isn't it? "People can easily get into food poverty... a relationship can break down, or benefits stopped. It could also be something as simple as halfterm and families having to find money for food for children when they are not at school and in receipt of school meals. We give them a voucher, they can go to Truro with it and get enough food to last three days."

Mrs Breasley said the food was donated voluntarily, and Sainsbury's supermarket was involved, too. "I know a lot of people survive on benefits but sometimes they can't afford food." Mrs Breasley said there were other towns with food banks or about to have them and she understood Helston might have one soon.
