Food is an important election

THIS month's farmers' market in Leicester falls on election day.

In the run-up to the election, I have chaired four election hustings. Each one has grappled with "green issues". Questions have been put to each candidate on recycling, waste disposal, the environment and reducing carbon emissions. Not many have mentioned food and where it comes from. But this is a vital part of the climate change challenge. As we saw with the closure of air space due to volcanic ash clouds, thousands of tons of food rotted in airport warehouses.

There is a huge urgency to grow more Replica burberry of our own food and cut down imports. By buying local we do this as well as supporting our own local economy. We have tremendous potential in our city and county to tackle this.
