James Poynor, sales director at Barratt North Midlands, said: "DIY disasters can be a thing of the past when you buy with us because a new home is exactly that - new.

"All our homes are built and ready to move into and depending on the build stage, you can even choose some of your preferred finishes such as tiles and floor coverings.

"Our homes now come with an extended warranty which now covers a range of fixtures and fittings for five years instead of the usual two."

Items which Barratt will cover at no extra cost include appliances, kitchen units, wardrobes, the central heating system, fires, doors, windows, drainage and the driveway.

James adds: "However, if doing it yourself is still appealing, common sense will go a long way but if in doubt at all, speak to a professional. It's much less embarrassing to as than to explain your resulting injury to the paramedic."

Barratt is currently building a selection of new, DIY-free homes including Highgrove, Anglia Road, Church Gresley, which features two and fourbedroomed homes with prices starting from Pounds 84,995.
