Circus saved by Spanish acquis

MONTY Python's Flying Circus was nearly axed after its first 1969 season because BBC chiefs felt it wasn't profitable enough.

The global comedy hit, which eventually ran for four series and spawned films, stage shows and books, was saved only when a Spanish TV agent opted to buy the rights.

Terry Jones, 68, made the revelation yesterday at a Croatian movie festival.

He said: "The BBC gave Christian louboutin Shoes us nonsense terms so we were never sure if we'd be there for another season.

"They did not believe we could bring any profit and wanted to get rid of us from the very beginning."

The unnamed Spaniard's belief led him, John Cleese, Graham Chapman, Michael Palin, Terry Gilliam and Eric Idle to cult status.

But Jones added: "They told him it wasn't a real circus and he wouldn't like it. He insisted - so they had to put up with us then."
