Children witnessing drink-fuel

NEW figures show hundreds of children in Huddersfield are witnessing alcohol-fuelled domestic violence.

Between April and June there were 1,0444 cases of domestic violence reported to police in Kirklees - with 542 children witnessing the incidents.

Drink was a factor in 504 of the cases.

The figures come ahead of Alcohol Awareness Week, which starts on Monday. Kirklees Council's Cabinet member for young people Clr Cath Harris said: "It's a significant problem with serious implications for the future if we do not registry cleaner address it."

Clr Peter O'Neill, Cabinet member for communities, added: "Alcohol Awareness Week gives us a chance to raise awareness of drinking too much and help people make healthy, safe choices about drinking - both for our own health and that of our families.

"It is easy for us as adults to forget how frightening it can be for children to see their mother or father drinking too much."

Workers from alcohol advice service On-Trakwill be out in tibet train Huddersfield town centre on October 20 and Dewsbury town centre on October 21 distributing information about help available.
