Byline: Graham Woods

VOTING closed yesterday, the papers will be counted today and the new Labour leader announced tomorrow, but bookmakers say that there is still no clear picture emerging of who Gordon Brown's successor will be, writes Graham Woods.

"It's definitely going down to the wire," said Gary Burton of Coral, although the firm cut favourite David Miliband from 4-9 to 1-2. "Though we cut David today, we are still Ysl taking as many bets for Ed."

The Miliband brothers dominate the betting, with David 4-7 and Ed 13-8, and Hills Ysl yesterday said that of the outsiders only Andy Burnham had attracted a bet of gold dive watch more than pounds 5. The firm go 100-1 bar the big two.
