DARTMOUTH is about to make a fundraising promise to help give the town's annual food festival a cash boost.

The Dartmouth Apprentice, South Devon's training restaurant for the long-term jobless, is hosting an auction of promises on Thursday, September 30.

The lots due to go under the hammer have been donated by various Dartmouth businesses and individuals.

This year's Dartmouth Food Festival starts on Wednesday, October 20 with cooking NHL jerseys demonstrations on the South Embankment in the afternoon and food and music in the evening in the market square.

The event includes a NHL jerseys children's market, a family tea party, young chef's competition organised by the town's Rotary Club, An Audience with Mitch & Friends featuring celebrity chef Mitch Tonks, a crab festival, a food market and a restaurant evening.

The auction of promises starts at 7pm.
